Ultra-7 brush-on bluing > "the strong" - blacks even complicated steel

The Ultra-7 brush burnishing gives steel workpieces reliable and durable surface protection against a wide range of environmental influences. Use the high-quality product Ultra-7 as a brush burnishing for burnishing larger or non removable parts, or diluted as a dip burnishing for smaller workpieces. Dilution as dip burnishing can be achieved up to 1:3 with water.

Furthermore, the Ultra-7 is very well suited for zinc. These metals can be blackened in a short time or slowly darkened in the diluted solution (1 part Ultra-7 : 4 parts water). Thereby one can achieve a very beautiful antique colouring.

Application areas of the Ultra-7 quick blackening

The Ultra-7 brush-on bluing is always the first choice when you want to provide steel surfaces with a reliable protective coating without thermal stress and with little effort. It is also ideal for precision parts whose dimensions must not be changed in any way by the application of a protective coating. This is because, in contrast to coating, the protective layer is not formed during blackening by material application, but by the absorption of oxygen and the associated oxidation of the material surface.

Use the Ultra-7 brush burnishing for brushing onto steel workpieces or as an immersion bath. Use the Ultra-7 burnishing agent to give components that are too large for an immersion bath the same reliable protection against environmental influences as permanently installed components. Or you can quickly and easily repair the protective layer of already blackened objects.

Dip and brush burnishing Ultra-7 for which materials?

The burnishing process is only suitable for alloyed and low-alloy as well as hardened steels and cast iron. The protective layer that forms during the rapid burnishing process reliably protects the material against environmental influences from the alkaline environment such as paints, solvents or lubricating agents. Acids, however, dissolve the protective layer and damage the burnished surface.

Please note that cold burnishing is not suitable for steels with more than 12 % chromium content, i.e. stainless steel. As stainless steel is a rust-free alloy, there is no oxidation, which is the basic principle of burnished surfaces. This means that burnishing agents are ineffective on stainless steel.

Optimal preparation of workpieces for burnishing

Only optimally prepared workpieces show perfect results after being painted or dipped in the blacking agent. Therefore, carry out the preparatory treatments with extreme accuracy. One of the most important preparatory operations is the careful cleaning of the object. Remove all impurities with the utmost precision so that there are no greases, oils, flash rust or other contaminants on the surface. Watch out for silicone oils and silicone greases on the material surface and remove them with specially designed cleaners.

After careful cleaning, apply the burnish evenly with a sponge or brush, or dip the workpiece into the prepared solution. Immediately after the material comes into contact with the quick burnishing, it will take on a black colour. Allow the brush burnishing to work for 1-5 minutes and remove the solution from the workpiece with water and a soft cloth.

After the brush burnishing or dip burnishing, dry the surface thoroughly and oil or wax the surface well. The result is a durable and reliable protective layer.
